Home is where the heart is.

When I’ve thought of my “home,” I’ve sometimes thought about it as a singular place I go to. For many of us, it’s the place we grew up or the home where we started our own family.

Yet, I’ve also found home in an impromptu walk with a close friend, the most perfect hug from someone I love, an unexpected deep conversation with a colleague, a late night call to talk, and more.

If home is where the heart is, then maybe my home is in the people with whom I feel some sense of “just knowing," as well as in the quiet moments I take to myself. It's the people who shine a light on my better parts and who walk beside me towards a better version of myself. It’s in the people who were a safe haven in difficult times, and who have allowed me to be the same for them. If we are lucky, we find a few of these people to walk alongside for the majority of our lives. And yet, part of the deal is that we are all walking our own journey through life, and sometimes our paths will veer in different ways. While we might even grieve those we lose to death, breakups, distance, or for any other reason - we can also take comfort in the part of the journey we got to walk together.

As Ram Dass said, we’re all just walking each other home.
