You never know.

My kiddo Jack and I love to play the card game Uno.

Recently while starting a new game, Jack got dealt a really lousy hand off the bat. Even worse, his mom (me) got a fantastic hand. The moment I laid down a “Pick Four Wild” card, well, let’s just say Jack didn’t like it. After some very big pouting about how it wasn’t fair, followed by me reminding him this is how the game goes, he calmed down. Jack accepted it, and got back into the game.

It turns out, that mean mommy move to lay down the “Pick Four Wild” is just what he needed. He got a few Wild cards of his own and crushed it. He won that game.

It was all a good reminder.

Life will deal each of us seemingly lousy cards. It’s ok to feel wronged or to acknowledge something seems unfair. The trick is to feel and move through those feelings and to remember that you just don't know how this hand will play out.

Calm down, get some support, and pick yourself back up. Figure out how to use what's been dealt to you. Then make your next move.

You never know.
