See what grows.
Jack and I spent the first part of the summer season clearing weeds out of our hillside and yard. It required a few new tools, 10+ giant garden bags of waste, weekly green barrel fill ups, lots of sweat, and really fun moments bonding with my little guy.
One day when finishing up a day outside and clearing up the yard, Jack asked me “What now, Mommy?” I handed him a pack of wildflower seeds to spread and showed him the garden hose. He happily got to work and watered the seeds and plants. Since then, we’ve kept up with our yard. Some flowers didn’t grow or survive, several have thrived, and others have surprised me just when I thought they weren’t going to make it.
Much like the weeds in my yard earlier this summer, each of us will experience times in our life of overwhelm whether it’s unexpected loss, grief, anxiety, or something else. It’s in those times that we need to remember that this is the way things go in life. Like tending to our garden, we need to tune into ourselves. Bit by bit, we work through the “weeds” and clear new space in our hearts and minds.
It’s here where we can plant new seeds, and see what grows.
