The power of yet.

My kiddo Jack wants to be a skateboarder. The thing is, he’s not very good (yet).

Recently, he drew a picture of himself standing tall on his skateboard. Under it, he wrote: “I can’t ride a skateboard, but I will be able to with the power of yet!”

This “power of yet” is a lesson he learned at school about growing and learning.

Maybe it's a power Jack already understood, even if he didn't have a name for it. You see, every time Jack gets on his skateboard, he falls, often scrapes some part of his body, then gets right back on to start it over again. His persistence is painful to watch at times, but also admirable. He believes he will become a skateboarder, even if he's not one right now.

Jack's 1st grade lesson is a good reminder. The frustrations, the falls, scrapes, hurts, discomforts - they will happen when we’re doing something new. They may look like failures in the moment, but they're actually stepping stones to what you want... to that person you are becoming, or that thing you are creating.

Just start where you are. Tap into the power of yet, and keep going.
