The thing about true colors.

When we hear (or say) that someone “showed their true colors,” it usually implies that the person in question has revealed some aspect of their character that we don’t like or that makes them unacceptable by our standards.

The truth is, at some point, life circumstances will test us. We may go through loss of a loved one, a job, a pet, our health, a significant relationship, and the list goes on. Our default colors of calmness and compassion can get clouded by anger and indifference. The colors of contentment and generosity can get overpowered by resentment and selfishness.

We may not always pick the right colors. So perhaps our missteps can be met with grace and understanding. And yet, each of us also has a responsibility.

Each moment of our lives is like a blank piece of paper. And in each moment, we also have a choice. We get to decide which colors paint the picture of our lives.
