Try something different.
I recently got my kiddo Jack to go hiking with me.
It’s something I didn’t think possible at 6 years old, especially based on this kid’s track record of "Mommmm, carry me!” most places we go. I opened up to the possibility though after getting a few tips from another mom who made it work with her young kids: get Jack his own CamelBak hiking gear, give him a small “power booster” (snack or treat) at each half mile, let him navigate with the interactive map on AllTrails, and make it fun.
I tried the tips. They worked. We’ve gone on 3 hikes now and counting.
I thought Jack wasn’t ready.
I was wrong.
I just didn’t understand what he needed.
It's a good reminder that sometimes we just need to listen, then try something different.
