Word for change.
My kiddo Jack just finished up kindergarten. I am so proud to be his mom and see him grow into the little man that he is becoming. And yet, there is a part of me that wants to hold on, and keep him little forever.
The better part of me knows that none of us, especially our kiddos, are meant to stay small or stay the same. We are all made to grow and change, as reminded by Jack and his fellow graduates when they sang:
“Metamorphosis, it’s a word for change.
If you are a caterpillar, you’ll become a butterfly.
If you are a tadpole, you’ll become a frog.
If you are a kindergartner, you’ll become a first grader.
Metamorphosis, it’s a word for change.”
Growth is bittersweet, and it’s beautiful. Change can hurt at times, and it can be transformative. Through it all though, there's a part of us that is constant - it's an inner fire and light inside of us. My wish for Jack is that he can always take comfort in that, in being true to himself. And in the times when his light feels covered over, it's ok. It's always there. He just needs to remember.
In the words of F. Scott Fitzgerald: “We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you’ve never felt before. I hope you meet people who have a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start over again.”
Metamorphosis. Word for change.
